The Charles River

The Charles River is the longest river wholly within the state, meandering slightly more than 80 miles (130 km) from its source in Hopkinton, southern Middlesex county, to its mouth on Boston Harbor. The river follows a winding course (south, northeast, north, east, northwest, and east) before dividing Cambridge and Boston to the west side of the harbour.
